A New Addition!

love care orphit's been a busy couple of days after a wonderfully quiet weekend...we bought fruit (bananas and mangos) and took it to the EXTREMELY energetic 30+ kids at the Love and Care Ministry. they were so excited to see us again....every time i snapped a photo they laughed uncontrollably..don't know if it was the flash, but they were WILD. i got shot 1000 times with a green plastic laser pistol which caused more chaos as i pretended to be stricken and in pain...haha...love these little kids. love care child arm
one has the most awful scarring on his arm, which is also badly enlarged and misshapen. apparently he was the helpless victim of a horrible stepmother and a witch doctor (for real). he was intentionally cut in many places and some type poison was inserted into the flesh of his arm.....of course WHY was my question, but no one knows....andrew said perhaps to kill him. fortunately he is safe with people who now care for him...away from the evil step mom!

kathy roostertoday we traveled to kiganda to visit the highway secondary school, our first friends and project in uganda. unfortunately our van broke down mid way there and i found
myself sitting under a mango tree visiting with a black and white heifer who was eating the mango leaves. andrew suggested that she liked me because i was also wearing black and white and perhaps she thought i was her relative. very funny. children walked by returning from school and it must have looked odd to them because i was actually sitting in a chair....they pointed and laughed, though i can't say i blamed them. we finally arrived at the school at lunch time....it was really good to see reverend kironde fred again and all the teachers and students....over 760 already enrolled for the school year! we walked to the 'village' and visited with senyonga john's mother, mary, and grandmother, tereza.....both wonderful ladies and two of my favorite people....they presented a very unexpected gift to me....a big white rooster! i named him 'foghorn' but they, of course, didn't know about the cartoon character, foghorn leghorn. we walked back to the school with him and he remained in the office while we greeted all the students, presented soccer balls and trash bins and enjoyed a wonderful assembly with students and staff. they all sent greetings to george and all their new friends in the usa.....such a great group of people.
we had to hire private transport to get back to kampala because the van needed to be towed for repairs....guess who rode in the car with us...yep...foghorn....he was really good, sat behind the seat and only cock a doodle dooed once or twice...! we stopped at the roadside markets to buy fruits and veggies and his space behind the seat got smaller and smaller. then we stopped at john's house to pick up our popcorn machine and all of a sudden foghorn had lost most of his breathing room....he seems to be a trooper though...i really never thought i'd own a rooster!! he is in the garage tonight. i said that i didn't have anything to feed him and john told me he likes cake. well...DUH!!!! if i had cake, i would be eating it! i gave him bread and water. seriously do not know what to feed him tonight...i just hope he sleeps in AND i hope he does not nest in the laundry basket. i would hate to find feathers and, well, you know ...... on my clothes. but, regardless, welcome foghorn! i'm not sure what you're doing here....hmmm...sometimes neither am i! guess we will make a good pair........!
