count down.......

safe house apr21 1It's almost impossible to think i have been in kampala for 3 months and that in 4 days i will be heading back to nashville (via nairobi, brussels, and newark). people said that the time would fly by and i doubted them...especially when i would go days without power or i longed for a hot shower or some hatch green chile salsa or just wanted to watch an hour of senseless tv. it's been an amazing three months..every day an adventure and every moment a miracle in the making. i think africa is not for everyone...yes , i know that sounds silly...but it's true. uganda can't be visited, it must be experienced...there has to be a predetermined acceptance that what you are about to see, to hear, to smell and to taste is unlike anything you have known before.... wow, i sound like rod serling on twilight zone.....

Uganda Naguru Mar 30 14534we received some sad news this week :( seems as if naguru remand center is under investigation and they are not allowing visitors on the premises until further notice. we were heartbroken because our project there was simply to provide fruit, bread, sugar, clothing, dental care products, medicines, things like that. we would have been happy to bring those things and just drop them off if that were allowed...but i guess not. maybe we can resume this project upon completion of hte 'investigation', though i doubt it. i will really miss the girls, especially maria.....i hope they understand why we have stopped going.
kathy girlsi had to say my goodbyes to the kids at the safe house on thursday...it was so difficult. we had such a fun day....we brought meals of chicken, fish and beef with matoke and rice. this is such a huge treat for the kids and a break from the everyday meals (lunch and dinner) of posho and beans. they really look forward to their thursday lunches...a change in their diet! we brought onions and tomatoes and bread and eggs and charcoal...always a van full of stuff on thursdays. we had several volunteers join us, ingrid nantege and cilia uwonakunze. the kids love it when there are new visitors, i think it makes them feel really special. we danced and sang and praised and prayed...it was awesome. i told the children that i would be back in june and that i would bring george, and kaleigh and erin and demetra. they all loved that. also i asked them what they would like me to bring from the states.....i was told PIZZA! you've got to love these kids. each child came up to me and thanked me for what i had done for him/her and to give me a huge hug. then patrick told me to kneel on the floor and they all laid hands on me and prayed over me. i cried. afterwards i sat on the steps and a few kids came and sat with me...mercy and john and a few others. i told them all that i expected them to stay at the safe house and wait for me...to pray and have faith and be careful, that God has a very special purpose for each and every one of them. i gave them an assignment.....to write on a piece of paper what they see themselves doing when they are grown...and to believe they will achieve this...because i do. i wonder if anyone will do his/her assignment.
roofiei have two adorble puppies now.....bobembwa (bobthedog) and hoofie.....at first i thought the previous owner said 'woofie' which made sense, but he corrected me and said 'hoofie'. i asked why that name, what does it mean...and he said he didn't know...it's just what they called him. ok, i guess. little, scrawny bob is a maniac...hyper, aggressive...all attitude....hoofie, the moose, is laid back and timid and hides when you call him! i haven't taken hoofie to the vet yet, will do that on monday. we took bob on friday, you seriously would have thought he was being murdered for the howling! he got a rabies shot, a shot for parvo and kennel cough and distemper, a vitamin shot, an iron shot, deworming, and flea shampoo and the bill was $28! yikes...can you believe it....probably ten times that at home. andrew's sister will come and house and dog sit for me until my return....also will do some serious cleaning as i never seemed to get a handle on the daily dosage of dust in this house.
i have so much to do in the next four days. i am looking forward to seeing my family and friends and pets and enjoying conspicuous consumtion for a few months. we will continue to focus on the raising up hope safe house.....o o o, the video is almost complete!!!! and will expand when i return to work on a street ministry of bringing meals to the street children! so many exciting projects and possibilities are on the horizon....we continue to pray for guidance and wisdom and compassion and strength in all that we do. we believe we have the most amazing jobs on the planet.....the pay is nonexistent, but the perks are immeasurable.......smiles and hugs and happy hearts, who could ask for anything more? thank you Jesus....we love You.
