tony's here !!!!

tony reidtony reid, missionary, from perfecting faith international in the nashville, tennessee area, arrived late thursday evening to spend a few months at from the heart house ministering to the children at the prisons and orphanages and the safe house. we, unfortunately were late picking him up from the airport because we had only allowed 4 hours to get to the airport....it is an hour and a half drive! traffic in kampala was ridiculous and entrance into the airport is tedious because passengers have to exit the vehicle and walk through a security check and then walk to the vehicle which has parked further up the road. hmmm, guess if i was toting explosives i would not be the passenger, but perhaps the driver!!!! tony was waiting for us with a huge smile. it was GREAT to see him and speak american english with someone who actually understood me. peter, my friend, says that no one actually understands me...everyone just smiles and nods because all they really hear is: "na-na-na--yip-yip-yip-wah-wah-wah"! i thought for sure he was teasing me until the other day when i asked a taxi driver if he was old enough to drive because he looked to be only 12.....and he smiled and nodded at me....well, maybe there is some truth in what peter said.

banana twixwell, it was really late when we finally got back to the house and quit visiting....but we got up bright and early to shop for the kids at nuguru. we brought the girls bandanas and deodorant and i shared a box of my twinkies! (the girls sent a shout out to george!). we bought everyone bananas and twix bars as an Easter treat. tony got his first experience shopping in a local market...he also had to move the car because it was blocking traffic....in case you are not aware, the steering wheel is on the right and you drive on the left side of the road. illona and i witnessed tony having a really long conversation with some of the local men....he was pointing and talking and laughing.....when he got in the car he said he didn't have a clue what they were saying and vise versa....it was really funny. illona and i were feeling sorry for all the chickens in the market being sold for Easter dinner.....Easter is one of the few times a year that most of the locals splurge on meat, so the market was full of chickens. i swear i heard one say "pick me, pick me"...thinking she was going to get to go free....not end up in the stew pot. i was glad i didn't see anyone choose her....maybe i was overtired :)
Biblewe had a good visit at naguru....i think tony was a bit overwhelmed...you know it's really hard to see children in this situation. we have never seen a parent visit...the kids look forward to us coming every week. tony talked to them.....told them they must make a change in their lives if they want a better life. he told them of God's love and how we are all family regardless of skin color, nationality, etc. he asked if they knew about salvation....and also asked how many read the bible! answer=0......want to know why? because they don't have any....no bibles in the entire instution! i wonder who could help with that. is there anyone reading this who would buy or send money for bibles? if the answer is no, i will be really sad.....we are out of bibles here...gave away every one we had...some to muslims! how many of my blog readers have given bibles to muslims? if we had more bibles, we could give more to muslims.....my thoery is: YOU CAN'T CHANGE THE WORLD IF U DON'T TRY & DON'T EXPECT THE WORLD TO CHANGE UNLESS U ARE WILLING TO CHANGE IT! ok, off the soapbox....

bed bugsthe girls took me to their dormitory, but would not let me come in because the bedbugs are so bad, they feared i would bring them back to the house.... we did take a photo of the wall and how it is infested....not just the matresses. not exactly sure what we will do, it just seems like the instution should be getting funding for this from the government....arrgh!!! anyway, tony enjoyed his visit and had some one on one time with some of the boys....he is exactly what they need.
we decided to eat out at the mall.....the restaurant was really clean and nice and we all ordered delicious looking food. tony and i had wraps and fries...and as a bonus, i got a case of food poisoning...another arrgh! it was my first since i got here over two months ago, so i am not complaining too much. thank goodness AND the pharmaceutical companies for cipro! another great day with great friends and great kids.....who could ask for anything more.........oh, read on PLEASE!
andrew said we should go to Miracle Center Cathedral...a huge pentecostal church we have been attending...i think their membership is around 10,000....for the Good Friday service. never in my life have i experienced anything like this....totally, completely, undeniably awesome!!!! hour after hour of praise and worship....thousands of people singing and dancing and loving the Lord and thanking Jesus. the music, the drums, the "choir", dancers, storytellers......unbelievable!!!! worship like i never even imagined.....we stayed until midnight...by then tony was completely exhausted and i was feeling dizzy from this new type Good Friday service. what an experience......THANK YOU...THANK YOU...THANK YOU JESUS!
